Adopted CCSS for math/ELA in 2010; Act 833 (2016) directed a state review that replaced them with the 'Louisiana Student Standards' (roughly 21% of standards changed, most content retained from CCSS). A 2024-2026 review produced updated Louisiana Student Standards for both Mathematics and English Language Arts: BESE approved the revised K-12 Louisiana Student Standards for Mathematics on Mar 12, 2026, and approved the revised K-12 Louisiana Student Standards for ELA in Apr 2026 (stronger science-of-reading, grammar, and cursive emphasis); both revisions take effect in SY2027-28.
